  • Complaining

Something I've been thinking about lately is how too often we as Christians complain, I do it a lot I realize. I think our complaining would be less if we stopped looking at only ourselves and looked around at others.
One of my passions is for high school kids, all summer I worked with some awesome guys and girls who had been through incredibly hard things in their lives that I have never experienced. It made me realize what a good life I really have had and then it makes me impatient with other people like myself who get upset when some small thing goes wrong and I just want to say well at least your best friend wasn't shot or your mom's not cheating on your dad or whatever. I wish I could show those kids what life can really be like and get them outside of their bubble to help their hurting peers.
This week I've been complaining because I'm taking 18 hours this semester and some of the classes are heavier loads then I've had before then I was talking to a friend who is taking 19 hours plus working plus doing ROTC and teaching and I forget what else but I told him I'd shut up cause compared to that I have no reason to complain, my semester looks pretty easy now.
I also now people who have incredibly bad health issues, one friend can barely breathe or talk as the lou gehrig's disease destroys her body, one of my best friend's dad has had cancer since we were in middle school or before and he's had countless health problems, another friend has rheumatory arthritis and at times can barely move from the pain. But I admire these people so much because they still find ways to encourage people and don't dwell on their problems. The friend with lou gehrig's disease always had a smile on her face despite the pain, the friend with arthritis still showed up at camp every wednesday this summer to make the picnic breakfast so the staff could have a break, my friend's dad has written emails and found ways to encourage people even when he can't leave the house. I hope I can be like these three people.
My challenge to myself and to whoever is that the next time we want to complain about something we should look around and see the people who are hurting more and maybe even try to help them. I find when I'm serving someone it's hard to dwell on my own problems for long.

    21

Generally when people try to guess my age they put me in highschool, the oldest I get is 18 (on a good day) and I have gotten as young as 12. So knowing that I look on average around 15 or 16 you would expect for me to get carded for a long time.
But on my 21st birthday I had my id ready and he didn't even look. Then tonight I was with my parents and we ordered drinks and she didn't card me. I didn't even bother to get my id out. Granted I was with my parents and most people would trust a kid when their parents are there (it could be a bad idea) but I figure I look young enough they may still want to double check.

    Oh well whatever works :)

  • I decided to post on my blog after a long silence. This is mostly because I've been at camp all summer and haven't had time and now my options are post online or clean my room(which looks like the aftermath of a hurricane).
This summer was amazing. Eight weeks of camp was exhausting but worth it when you think of the impact we have on the campers lives.
Now it's back to reality, in three weeks I start school but the good news is the school finally recgonizes me as a senior.

  • I have decided that I should move to Hawaii. There's a couple reasons, my sister lives there, my brother lives there(altho he's in Iraq right now), and my brother's fiancee lives there. I could move into the small apartment that my brother owns but his fiancee and our sister are living in. There's the couch, that's pretty comfy.
Then not to mention it's  beautiful, beautiful mountains, beautiful beach, beautiful hikes, beautiful surfers.
But I think the most important reason is that all the flip flops that I wore I got in Hawaii and they can only be bought in Hawaii. They're wonderful flip flops "scotts" and "locals". I love them. Flip flops is definetly a legit reason to move somewhere :). I guess if I don't move I'll just have to visit every May so I can restock before the summer begins.

On a great note, since as of right now I can't exactly move there, I only have two finals left before summer!!!. And in 21 days my sister and brother's fiancee are coming out here. I'll just have them bring me more flip flops :) and coffee, and graham crackers. Hawaii makes some really good things that you can't get on the mainland. :(
